Famines – 14 July, 2008

music review:

Famines – 14 July, 2008

When this album showed up in the office it was nicely wrapped, like a present. It made us curious. So Richard (Rosenbaum, assistant fiction editor) picked it up and shook it. The loose rattling sound that followed caused us to glance at each other with raised eyebrows. “Is this a tape?” Richard asked. “Do people make tapes anymore?” Yes they do.

I mostly see tapes floating around the noise music community, but 14 July, 2008 by the Famines is über low-fi punk tinged garage rock. Not my cup of tea, but good for folks who like Jay Reatard or Homostupids. It also comes with a thick, perfect bound mini-book that makes it worth purchasing the package (if you still have a tape player). (Lindsay Gibb)
