Primarily a music zine, this good-natured review has the expected band interviews and local show listings but also a smattering of art, fiction, poetry and ranty, but cohesive, opinion pieces. (Recent highlights include an historical comparison between zip- and button-fly jeans and an off-kilter comic about a robot who carefully programs himself to experience human inebriation.) Still, what may be of most interest to the foreign reader is the geographically specific music content, in particular the ongoing coverage of the zine’s current critical darlings, the Dead Class and Metro Manilla Aide. Ragged and astute, Slacker Sounds offers a distinct glimpse into the Liverpool music scene. (Daniel Marrone)
