The Canzine Portraits: Emily Taylor

Next up in our profiles of Canzine participants, we give you Emily Taylor: a freelance illustrator, fourth-year OCAD U student and native of Oakville, Ontario. You can catch her tabling October 23 at Toronto’s Canzine.

We asked Emily why she creates her colourful, fantastical Peter Pan-like zines.

And she answered!
“I love to draw lots of different things and I think that’s why I like making zines; my zines are a bit like lists where I can visually ramble through my latest obsessions. I think the creation of zines also pushes me to actually draw out the crazier ideas stuck circulating my brain, and forces me to clean them up a bit more than my usual sketchbook doodle (weird ideas like ‘worms in waisttcoats’ or ‘Torontonian lawn gnomes’ … both of which to be created in the coming months!). My post-grad plans are still a little vague, but I hope to illustrate some children’s books, try some fashion illustration, some editorial illustrations … and of course, continue making zines!”

You can see more of her work at http://inkedlemmings.blogspot.com and at this year’s Canzine.
