This Week’s Indie Events: August 15 to 22

It’s the end of summer, but there’s still plenty do to: watch some Pee Wee Herman, go on a treasure hunt or attend a crafting night!

August 15, Geek Love Episode III: Pee Wee Herman, The Ossington, 7:30pm

Come to 61 Ossington Avenue for the third installment of Geek Love, curated by Broken Pencil editor Lindsay Gibb. Enjoy screenings of The Pee Wee Herman Show HBO Special (1982), season 2 episode “Playhouse in Outer Space” (1987), and season 5 episode “Conky’s Breakdown” (1990). August 19, Good Catch Last Splash Craft Fair, in the back yard of Good Catch General Store, 11am-6pm

Go on an indie treasure hunt in the back yard of 1556 Queen Street West on Saturday at the Good Catch Craft Fair. Featuring local, independent craftspeople selling  unique, practical and beautiful objets d’art for back-to-school. Amy C. August 21, Zine Dream Zine Fair 4, The Tranzac, 12 – 5pm

The 4th annual small press art fair Zine Dream is taking place this Sunday at the Tranzac (292 Brunswick
Ave), featuring over 50 vendors, live music and art performances, DJs and a mix tape library. PWYC.

August 20, Opening Reception of Mile Zero, Ministry of Casual Living, 8pm

Come to the opening reception of Mile Zero at the Ministry of Casual Living (1442 Haultain Street) at 8pm on Saturday. Mile Zero is an exhibition of sculptural and pictorial miniatures by artists Jennie Suddick and Cole Swanson that celebrate and critique Canadian geography and identity. Show runs until August 25.

MONTREAL

August 17, Fiction Funnies at Drawn & Quarterly Bookstore, 7pm

Three of Montreal’s finest fiction writers read and discuss comedy in their writing at the Drawn & Quarterly Bookstore. Featuring Katrina Best (Bird Eat Bird), Cordelia Strube (Lemon) and Teri Vlassopoulos (Bats or Swallows). The whole evening will be hosted by Ian Orti (The Olive and the Dawn). The three authors will read from their latest work and follow up the short readings with a Q&A about humour, their writing and where the two intersect. Free!

  1. Have you ever considered about adding a little bit more than just your articles? I mean, what you say is fundamental and everything. Nevertheless think of if you added some great images or video clips to give your posts more, “pop”!   2. REPLY;The Zune is focused on like a Portable Media Player. Not just a internet browser. Not really a game machine. Maybe in the future itll do even better in those areas, until then its an excellent approach to organize and hear your music and videos, and is particularly without peer and need rest. The iPods strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your smart choice.
