Hoser Punx #5 fanzine is officially a thing (and we’re here for it)!

Hoser Punx #5

fanzine, Shelby Monita, [email protected], $7

With the arrival of their fifth issue, I think we can officially declare Hoser Punx a thing. Following the expected offerings of the classic punk zine, this issue includes an interview with Toronto’s Dead Broke, words of advice for aspiring scenesters (courtesy of DA of London’s Wasted Potential, whose set I recently missed at Call the Office, oops!), and a chat with the ultimate hoser punk himself, Nardwuar the Human Serviette. I laughed out loud when they asked Nardwuar if punk has changed since he first got into it and he replied that there were more mohawks back in the day.

He continues, “When I first saw Death Sentence and Lethal Virus at the New York Theatre I was scared! Many years later I am still scared! So punk seems the same!

Ice Cube said it’s good to be scared!” Ice Cube! That kills me. Anyway, Hoser Punx has kept true to its format with cut-and-paste, black-and-white imagery, crummily reproduced photos, decent artwork, plus a punk band-themed word search puzzle. I dig that it’s brief, fun, and made by folks who seem down to earth and passionate about punk. What’s not to like?
