Little Gardens for Invalids

Bee Lavery writes comics that are like an alternative love ballad. Her hand is shaky as she draws, but the lines are clean and the white spaces feel filled with airy light. It’s an intimate style, filled with the delicacy and hush of amateur art. It’s the perfect medium for Lavery to express her doubts, fears, insecurities and regrets, because it allows her to touch on these things with pretty pictures and a smile. It takes the sting out of situations that are all too familiar to most of us, and begins to feel like reading the work of a dear friend who understands you and knows how to make you laugh. I hope to see longer, more detailed works from her in the future. (J. Blackmore)
