Southern Africa Report
This issue contains some detailed and interesting writing about the June elections in South Africa, the second since the dismantling of the apartheid system. One article by Carolyn Bassett explores the rift that has developed between the national trade union organization, COSATU, a long_time supporter of the ANC, and that ruling group’s move toward embracing more business interests and a neo_liberal agenda. Overall, this issue of the SAR helps keep us informed of the political machinations of a continuing evolving democracy and social struggle in South Africa, perspectives not often found in the mainstream media.
