Presenting “scarcitY” – The Winner of The Low-Fi Sci-Fi Film Competition

Last weekend, seven teams of intrepid (and crazy) Torontonians made a low-budget science-fiction short film as part of the Low-Fi Sci-Fi 48-Hour Film Challenge. Teams were given a prop, a piece of music and a line from a Canadian work of science fiction to incorporate into their films, and had approximately 48 hours to complete their five-minute masterworks. The final screening took place this past Monday at The Monarch Tavern. The seven shorts covered a variety of themes, emotions and ideas, from subtitled squirrel subterfuge to classic 50’s style radioactive goo monsters. Judges Evan Georgiades, Gareth McGorman and David James Fernandes voted “scarcitY” as the challenge’s best film, and you can watch it below or over here on Youtube. Made by local gaming innovator and Board Game Jam founder Adam Clare, the film explores the fraught world of female/male relationships. Or does it?

Keep an eye on the Low Fi Sci Fi website, where the other great films from the challenge will eventually be posted, and learn about upcoming events.
