Ah yes, Johnny Canuck, that national hero. What would a Canadian childhood have been without his trapeze skills and wartime antics?
Doesn’t sound familiar? Despite being a popular 1940s comic, Johnny Canuck’s legacy has been fogged by 70 years out of print and by his NHL mascot derivative over at the Vancouver Canucks. However, a kickstarter project has been started by Rachel Richey, a “tireless Canadian comics fan,” who wants to reprint the series along with a biography of the creator and contributions by other Canadian artists— including an introduction by the legendary Seth.
Perks include a copy of the final product, original art from a number of illustrators, and issues of Nelvana of the Northern Lights, another Canadian Golden Age reprint by Richey (so you know she can pull it off!).
Check out their kickstarter page and donate now— if they make their goal by August 15, everyone who donates will get a “WWJCD – What Would Johnny Canuck Do” silicon bracelet.
