Reach an informed, engaged audience
of young creatives and creators!
Founded in 1995, Broken Pencil is North America’s long-running and only magazine devoted to independent and underground publishing and culture. Broken Pencil reviews the best zines, books, websites, videos, and music from the underground, reprints the best articles from the alternative press, and publishes groundbreaking interviews, original fiction, and commentary on all aspects of the independent arts.
Who are our readers?
Our readers cross all categories and age groups!
The majority of our audience lives in an urban area of Canada (or the USA) and has likely worked in, or still works in, the arts.
The male/female readership is equal. The bulk of our readership is relatively young (under 35).
They consider themselves creative and are seeking outlets for that creativity and like-minded creators to communicate with.
We estimate that about 20-30% of our readers actively publish/create zines, comics, or are otherwise engaged in the arts including writing, illustration, digital arts, indie music, film/video and more.
