Canzine is a free, Canada-wide festival of zines and underground print culture, and it’s coming to Treaty 6 Territory/Saskatoon! Check out tons of amazing exhibitors and creators sharing comics, zines and underground print excellence — from first time self-publishers to seasoned zine dreamers
You’ll have the opportunity to purchase, trade, and even create a zine, make a button, and learn more about the world’s greatest medium.

In partnership with the Neil Richards Special Collection at the USask, we are excited to offer a special exhibition in celebration of Perceptions, Canada’s longest running LGBT print publication! Founded by Gens Hellquist in Saskatoon in 1983, Perceptions was a resource to LGBTQ+ communities in the Prairies and beyond for 30 years. To celebrate SK’s unique place in queer self-publishing history, this show will include early and recent original editions of Perceptions, reproductions available for public perusal, and a smattering of letters, posters, process work and other ephemera.
To accompany the exhibition, we will be offering a Pop-Up LGBTQ2S+ Zine Library featuring more than 100 vintage and modern zines by queer and trans creators, including some rare seminal Canadian zines. Come browse, read, and immerse yourself in the world of queer zines.

How are people using the uniquely flexible medium of the zine to create change, tell new stories, and build communities? Our panel about how zines can be used as tools includes Jon Vaughn zine experts Manuela Valle-Castro and Jody Cason. This panel is for everybody, new to zines or not. Cut, paste, write, draw, type, stamp…. there’s no wrong way to learn to make a zine! Void Gallery’s director, Michael Peterson, will facilitate this drop-in zine jam for all ages. Contribute to our group zine by writing a story you’d never expect to find in the library, but would like to. You can also make your own mini-zine to take home. All supplies will be provided.
