“I, Enheduanna was founded in 2020 as a means to reconnect artists across time and space during an era of loneliness sparked by the COVID-19 pandemic. In creating a new zine dedicated to feminine and nonbinary artists, we hope to shine a light on perspectives that are often buried beneath the entrenched value systems of our culture which reward toxic masculinity, gender oppression, whiteness, and capital above connection and creativity.
At I, Enheduanna, we are striving to build a space for voices that should be heard and creativity which connects artists across social and geographic boundaries.”
SUBMISSIONS
I, Enheduanna are currently accepting submissions for the Spring 2022 zine with the theme “In our hands”.
“We interpret this theme very broadly, but as an example, we’d love to see poetry or prose that has elements relating to physical touch and art which viewers can connect with through touch or with a theme of physical touch.”
Submission guidelines:
“We accept submissions of visual and written art in any medium from creators who identify as female or non-binary. Our goal is to give women and non-binary people a platform to claim their space through their creative practice. Each feature will also include a short article or interview about the creative practice of the artist written by our team based on an interview with the creator to be conducted via email if their submission is accepted. Up-and-coming artists are especially encouraged to submit.
I, Enheduanna will not have any ownership of your work. We accept reprints. At this time, we’re not a paying market because the magazine is entirely funded by the staff but paying artists is the first priority on our list of goals as we grow.”
Artwork: Please submit 6-12 high-quality photos of your work.
Poetry: Please submit 1-5 poems as a .doc.
Prose: Please submit 1-2 pieces of up to 3,000 words.
Disclaimer: We do not accept pieces with heavy sexual or violent themes or that promote any form of bigotry. We do not accept fanfiction or fan art. We may pair written pieces with visual work and vice versa.
