This is a collection of poetry from Candian writers. As with most compilations, it’s uneven. Toronto veteran Stuart Ross’ “No Life Like It” about the drudgery of office work is one long cliche, as is Robin Hannah’s “The reason O.J. and Nicole didn’t surprise me.” Jim Larwill’s “This Spring I Heard the Harmonious Clapping of Hands” basically just beats the phrase “Spring is a kind of death” into the ground. On the other hand, Stephanie Bolster’s “The Skin Beneath Fingernails” and Michael Dennis’ “theory of relative elasticity” touchingly explore memory and mortality. (KR)
