The Ottawa based, Edmonton influenced Superfly is an unusual and endearing mix of the whimsical and the political. To that end, it seems an appropriate forum for a group of young women to explore notions of the body through poems, essays and rants. But there’s still room in this zine for Caroline’s article on replacing the hand-shake with the HIGH FIVE (gotta be in CAPS) and the witty Indie Labels Word Search. These writers ask questions about stereotypes and sexuality, but they do so in a forthright, self-reflective way. That is, they have considered their ideas, and taken into account that written arguments have a life beyond purely oral debates. Superfly is exploratory writing: it questions where we have already been by going where we haven’t.
