A good way to keep on top of what goes on in the world of Canadian magazines. The CMPA represents over 300 Canadian magazines, and its newsletter is the place to find out what they are up to on behalf of Canadian magazines, and what people are trying to do to make Canadian indie magazine publishing an even more dubious process. This issue keeps us up with what’s going on with the attempt to stop foriegn split-run publishers from destroying Canadian magazines. Also hints on increasing your newsstand sales and a report on Word on the Street in Toronto, Halifax and Vancouver. This isn’t the sort of info that is going to change your life but if you are trying to publish a magazine in a vacuum it will definitely give you some context for how to go about it and what sort of issues are at large. And if you are a small Canadian magazine of any sort (comic, literary, sex, anything really) then you should consider joining the CMPA and getting not only the newsletter but cross-Canada promotion and distribution.
