Found On The Internet

Bargain Bin Blasphemy:
The administrator of this website goes to thrift shops and the like, finds classic old records and defaces them into black metal nightmare album covers (see “Elvis In Hell “above). It is amazing. That’s all I need to say – just go look at it.

The Creative Confessional: Remember that website Grouphug.us, where people anonymously confessed their most burning secrets via an open forum? The Creative Confessional is basically Grouphug with creative types (many of whom work in the ad industry, it would appear) sharing their greatest sins with the world. As a reader, you have the option to “absolve” or “condemn.” Predictably, the most condemned entries are also the most hilarious.

The Truth Behind Kickstarter Campaigns: A writer breaks down the financial realities of using Kickstarter to fund a novel. The results are a bit stark, but the writer says she’d use it again, if only for the audience exposure and the PR experience of describing and marketing your own work online.

The Nub: We have an app now, guys. Indie arts stories and cartoons and reviews from BP and other Canadian indie mags right on your phone! You should download it or learn more here.

Oldie but a Goodie: Every so often when I’m bored or feeling sad, I will go watch a bunch of videos by the Iowa pop/rap band Leslie and the Ly’s. If you don’t know them, you should get familiar (especially if you like gem sweaters, gold pants, surprisingly catchy songs and goofy/weird animations. Re-watching the video for “Craft Talk”, I was struck by how decidedly Broken Pencil-y it is. Some things just have an ineffable quality – a silent characteristic that unifies and connects us. This video has that quality in spades. It is also hilarious. Work through the pain:
