What comes to mind when you think about the city of Waterloo, Ontario? Do you think about math? The delightful watering hole Jane Bond? Universities?
Yep, it’s true, these are all things that exist in Waterloo. But writer/zinester (and former Broken Pencil intern, and owner of the delightful website Cats of Parkdale) Ellie Anglin wants you to know that there is much more going on in her city, and wants you to help her fund a zine that will showcase Waterloo’s vibrant and active creative community.
Try-Cities Zine is a self-published chapbook that will feature writing and artwork from in and around the Waterloo Region (Kitchener, Cambridge, Waterloo, etc etc) collected and curated by Anglin. She says on her IndieGogo page that she’s been “absolutely blown away by the incredible submissions I have received and the talent that exists in and have been fostered by this community.” That’s a pretty sweet endorsement. Perks include complimentary copies of the zine and written thanks for your support, which we also think is sweet – when’s the last time you got a REAL thank-you letter?
We are all about shining light into the secret coolness of small-to-midsize Canadian towns, and Try-Cities Zine is certainly a step in the best of all directions.
You can learn more about this zine at its IndieGogo page. Help Ellie out! She’s almost halfway to her goal.
