Broken Arts Distro is part of Broken Arts, a group staffed soley by volunteers from Oshawa, Ontario. The group has been around since 2009 and consists of the following cool cats: Kathleen Bradley, John France, Cassy Goulding, Kat Gravel, Erin Pazaratz and Harley R. Pageot (Harley will be repping the group at Canzine this Sunday.) These talented folks put on all-ages events all over the damn place, release zines, make and produce music, host open mics, zine and art workshops, dance parties, busker festivals, Julie Doiron tribute nights, art shows, and probably a billion other things that I haven’t even mentioned. This past year the group celebrated the third anniversary of Broken Arts Fest, a massive takeover of downtown Oshawa featuring bands, comics, crafts, zines, spoken word, workshops and more. Their zine distro features works from all over North America, including Ghost Pine, Static Zine, and zines made by the group’s members. Everything Broken Arts does is Oshawa-based and highly inclusive towards younger folks. This is the proven method for building a vibrant, viable and sustainable local scene, and Broken Arts are doing an amazing and exhaustive job. Check out what will no doubt be a loaded table at Canzine this Sunday and you can learn more about the group and how to get involved via Tumblr, Facebook and on Twitter.
