Fans of weirdo/cult/trashy ephemera and culture would do well to visit the Cinema Sewer table at Canzine West. Cinema Sewer is a movie magazine self-published and produced by Vancouver artist Robin Bougie since 1997. Each issue is a filthy, comprehensive, well-written and loving paean to “various tawdry morsels of interest,” including films ranging from low-budget horror to ’80s trash to Asian cult cinema to vintage pornography. The articles and interviews – many written and conducted by Bougie himself – are intelligent and passionate, and all are illustrated in his distinctive, visceral and deliriously lurid style. At Canzine, vendors who spend $10 or more at Bougie’s table – and you really should – will get a free surprise DVD-R from Bougie’s massive personal collection of rarities. Cinema Sewer t-shirts will also be for sale, as well as many of the offerings from Bougie’s online store, including back issues, books and DVDs.
Bougie will be joined at the table by fellow artist (and his wife) Rebecca Dart, an award-winning artist and animator who currently works as a character designer on the TV series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Dart also recently released her first solo work of comics and sketches since 2004, titled Battle Kittens: The Art of R. Dart. She will also be selling original art and t-shirts! To check out more of Rebecca’s stunning, weird, sexy, cute, beautiful art, go visit her Tumblr (one of the images from her Tumblr is pasted below) and go say hi to her and Robin at Canzine West tomorrow!
