Indie Events: October 24 – 30

This week’s events are going up a little late, due to Canzine craziness, but better late than never…right?

TORONTO

Oct. 26, Best Canadian Poetry in English 2011 Launch, Revival Bar, 783 College Street, 7pm

Great Canadian poets will all be in one room (or rather bar) for the launch of the anthology Best Canadian Poetry in English (Tightrope Books), including work by David Seymour, Richard Teleky and more!

Oct. 28, Function Zine Release Party, Studio 407, 263 Adelaide Street West, Toronto, 10pm

Function Magazine is throwing a Halloween-themed party for the release of their 13th issue. There will be cheap drinks, cheap zines, and awards for the best costumes.

KINGSTON

Oct. 29, Kingston Zine Fair, The Artel, 205 Sydenham Street, 11am

It’s time for the third annual Kinston Zine Fair! Listen to music, readings and maneuver through the maze of tables to find some of the best zines of Eastern Ontario and afar.

HAMILTON

Oct. 28, PoeMagic, Artword Artbar, 15 Colbourne Street, 8pm

Hosted by the award-winning Jamaican poet, Klyde Broox, Hamiltonians are invited to witness or take part in a night of spoken word poetry.

HALIFAX

Oct. 25, Comic Jam, Robert Street Social Centre, 5684 Roberts Street, 6pm

Get out to the Robert Street Social Centre for a monthly Comic Jam, creating comics with other artists while sipping tea and munching on baked goods.

Oct. 28, Haunted Swing Factory, The Swing Factory, 1313 Hollis Street, 8pm

Frankensteins get frisky and witches get wild at the haunted edition of The Swing Factory’s Swing Night. Take part in a beginner
swing lesson with a social dance to follow.

VANCOUVER

Oct. 28, Shadow Shine, Toast Collection, 648 Kingsway, Vancouver, 6pm

Eat The Rich! community kitchen is proudly presenting a night of performances and food at Toast Collective. If shadow puppetry isn’t your thing, how about noise music? Guests are asked to come dressed as their shadow (interpret that however you wish.)
