This makes me nervous. A zine on “Charlie Culture.” A zine presenting “evidence of the influence CM has had on society”. A zine reprinting strange theories about Charlie Manson as voiced by John Judge. Books, comics, playing-cards, recordings, restaurants. This guy certainly has a following, and Clang Bang Clang documents it and adds to it. Highlights include an attack on rock music types who drop Manson’s name without knowing anything and later reveal their ignorance. While all the writing in this zine seems well researched and documented, it’s hard to tell if you are not up on Manson theories, personalities and lore. Maybe in the next issue we could have an introduction and a who’s who at the beginning to get everybody up to speed. However, the fact that Clang Bang does nothing to simplify this incredibly complicated practically self-contained world is to its credit. Here’s a piece of advice: Lock you door before you start reading this exhaustive document.
