Constant Subliminal Brain Immersion

This is a political punk zine that analyses the world in black and white. Denyss and Andrea’s recommended records are all “absolutely fucking amazing”, but we are barely told anything else. Andrea manages to write a whole paragraph about how the book Tropic of Cancer rocks, but does not tell us what it is about. A big part of the zine is made of reprints lifted from books, the web and whatnot. Reprints include: the story of a Tibetan Buddhist nun who received ridiculous prison sentences for standing her ground, a Procter & Gamble document explaining why animal testing is necessary with “bullshit” written in felt pen all over it, the story of Che Guevara and a “punk synopsis” by Greg Graffin of Bad Religion. There is a lengthy article on animal testing that raises valid points, but failed to convince me that there are viable alternatives to animal testing or that it is completely useless. There is some more of their own writing, which generally lacks depth. There are two things about political punk zines that issue blanket anti-conformist statements: they are essential to the punk scene’s continuity (in this case, Prince George’s), as an introduction to central punk moral themes, but they’re close to useless as contributions to zinedom, because 5000 zines like this one have already been made.
