If zines are to be considered rich sources of ethnographic material (ethnography being the systematic study of human cultures), then Merritt, BC is certainly a prime candidate for some anthropology. This small town hosts a plethora of zines including Corvus. Corvus gives us news from Merritt and a fairly long essay by zine creator David concerning incidents surrounding a childhood friend who struggled with the inclination to dress up in his mother’s clothing. Social researchers exploring the phenomenon of Merritt zines can ponder this Corvus pronouncement: “There are no movie theaters in Merritt.”
