Zine Review:
Doom
Inane would be one word to describe this ironically titled comic strip zine from Mary Kim. Maybe I’m a little too jaded for this inoffensive ode to the Sunday funnies, but to me these comics are severely lacking in punchlines. Coming across as Calvin and Hobbes without the folk philosophy, Doom’s two characters (a little girl and her pet rabbit) while away their days in a haze of crayons, cookie stands, and bratty neighbours. The whole thing has a cutesy charm, but with better stuff in the papers, I can’t see what would compel someone to check out Doom. However, if happy-go-lucky strip comics are indeed your bag, stick to issue two–it’s somewhat more polished. (Michael Tau)
