Kiss Machine

This is the ‘nature or nurture’ issue, and explore the ideas with a mix of poems, short stories, photos, artwork, and interviews. Instead of solving the debate through evolutionary biology and psychology, the artists and writers talk about family dynamics, ancestry, childhood and parenthood, bad habits and instincts. Although one of the longer stories, Luciana Lopez’s “Ana,” was one of my favourites, generally I like how the selection of short pieces makes it easy and enjoyable to read. I also stared in awe at the lovely colour photos Allyson Mitchell’s Female Sasquatches. (Sarah Evans)
