A collection of essay/stories related to work. Most of them are tales of post-university disillusionment as dreams of changing the world fade into the everyday 9-to-5 torture we’ve always been promised. A healthy and fairly enlightening issue that (accidentally?) focuses on several media jobs. Of course, almost all of them suck, because these people are temps: bottom-rung footstools getting a crash course in why lawyers and accountants run the world. Amy Bourne’s piece called Graveyard Shift: The Dark Underbelly of News Wire Reporting is an especially intriguing piece on the endless stream of murders, suicide attempts, fires, overdoses that are the brutal stock-and-trade of a news wire reporter’s job. Realistic and useful. (SA)
