In what seems to be a fairly well-researched pamphlet, Gambone gives us a systematic deconstruction of Che the revolutionary, Che the man lionized by a generation of 60s and 70s activists as a man who was essentially so consumed by doctrinaire left-wing sectarianism and so focused on the ends of revolutionary uprising that he crossed the line into Stalinism, and authoritarian action and revolt. I don’t have the background in Cuban history or of Guevara (in order to verify Gambone’s assertions) but I will say that you have to be a little wary of such statements as: “anybody who knows history knows that this is not the case,” as well as his reliance on ONE biographical source of the man – Che: A Revolutionary Life, by John Lee Anderson.
