I needed some extra cash this fall to pay some unexpected bills so I broke down and started sorting through my CD collection, ruthlessly removing those I imagined I could live without. I said goodbye to solo electric harp, sayonara to improvised throat singing and toodle-oo to sub-par Fall albums, but I couldn’t part with my slack key guitar albums. Even though I only listen to them once in a blue moon, the simple proximity of their buttery tones keeps me comforted. Steve Dawson is equally buttery as he picks Hawaiian guitar, National tricone guitar, pedal steel and mandotar. He sometimes sings but mostly makes his fingers do the talking and that suits me just fine. (Terence Dick)
