This comes out of an older perspective, but the central tenet — anger with the roles women seem forced to play — is very much in evidence. The story, written by Eleni Kapetanios, is of two friends heading to Pennsylvania to visit the brother of one of them. Strangely enough, the sister’s friend was once the brother’s girlfriend. The clever tension in the comic is played out in a seedy bar the women stop in on the way. Tequila’s reserved narrative coupled with drawings of the gentle characters shows that the hysteria of everyday life does not necessarily require the rhetoric of displacement.
