“Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious/If you say it loud enough/You’ll always sound precocious.” As do The Doers, whose precocious sophomoric album Watcha Doin’? bowled me over with its infectiously weird charm and tightly-wound instrumentation. While I’m not sure if nineteen tracks are ever a good idea on any record -unless, of course, your name happens to be Prince Rogers Nelson- there is something compulsively listenable about songs that range in topic from horseys to handjobs to sports cars as part of a healthy lifestyle. Wickedly spiky and satirical, Watcha Doin’? leaps and dives and never stays in place for too long. Just the thing for jumping into puddles on a rainy day or pumping your fist up and down with geeky defiance at just about anything. (Karyn Bonham)
