The second issue of this fabulous Montreal zine brings a wealth of good writing, and just enough artist-ville attitude to make the reader feel like they’re sitting in a café drinking a bottle of Maudite. It’s the “city” issue, and the cover looks like a science fiction blend of tea kettles and buildings. Daniel Perlmutter’s Monster in the Basement is a delightful piece of fiction. So’s Siobhan O’Connor’s poem. There’s a cartoon by the illustrious Mr Marc Bell. And how could you not love a piece of writing like Escape From the Ashrom by Ethan Tobham: “I came to realize that organized religions (and, in fact, disorganized religions) wreak havoc on my tender sinuses.” The New Irregular is a treat, well worth the $2.
