Mattick is the star of this third issue of Trevor Clement’s wrestling photo zine, Industry Standard. In what looks to be photos of actual small-scale wrestling leagues, the square-jawed Mattick rages and prevails against his opponents, bedecked in punk rock black and cool-ass tattoos.
Honestly, I have zero interest in wrestling, but this zine is remarkable as an artifact. It is z-folded with cardstock covers printed in two-tone colouring, with its interior pages in black and white. Going from front to back, the zine is read in two parts, the first beginning with a tipped-in photo of Mattick printed on transparency, and the second with a full-colour photo of Mattick (and manager?) ringside. There is no narrative, only the images of Mattick crushing it. In terms of weight, it is a hefty zine, clearly a labour-intensive creation.
If you like seeing two dudes (pretend to) beat the shit out of each other, come for the wrestling, but then stay for the singular lesson in unique zine design and construction.
