Something about the “Go Numb” retrospective by Ryan Solski stands apart from many zines. I suppose it can be best summed up in its simplicity, which I place in high favour above a lot of clutter, something which many zines are prone to. He has clearly marked out a style in simple back and white and has stuck to the same format throughout. Many reading this may not think this is a very big deal, but when the pile of zines you have in front of you is full of ones that often lack direction, it’s nice to see some that speak strongly without the antics. Solski has a fantastic style, and as this is a retrospective of his work, he marks each page with an explanation of the drawing, where he was when he drew it, etc. This spans from sketches and development of the characters in “Go Numb” to fully realized comic strips and more precisely drawn characters. Truly, this is some mighty fine eye candy. (Carolyn Tripp)
