A short-list of what Broken Pencil was reading this week:
Montreal editorial cartoonist Dave Rosen releases the Stephen Harper Colouring & Activity Book from Pop Boom Bang Books that is getting heaps of mainstream media attention, from The Huffington Post Canada to Jian Ghomeshi’s Twitter. It just so happens the book is hilarious in the Harper jabs department, with lists of how the Canadian PM is like a bond villain (he dresses like a robot and likes cats) and directions on how to build a G8 gazebo (get a slush fund, Tony Clement and useful building materials).
Montreal’s Expozine celebrates its 10-year anniversary with its two-day zine fair tomorrow and Sunday. Broken Pencil as well as hundreds of other zinesters and publishers will be on the premises. Check out some retrospect pieces on 10-years of Expozine here and here.
The Barnard Zine Library held a free-form panel to discuss its latest exhibit Meet Me at the Race Riot: People of Color in Zines from 1990-Today about the diversity of people working in zines. You can get a full round-up of the discussion and issues covered from blogger Lindsey here.
And Vancouver’s Canzine West gets a nice write-up and coverage from Granville.
