1:30pm-5pm Little Island Comics Kids and Adults Hands On Drop-In Area.

We’ll be using old comics to make new ones at our Kids Comics Collage Centre! Or stop by for one of our Mini-Comic Making workshops led by cartoonist Tory Woollcott (Science Comics: The Brain) at 2pm and 4pm, and learn to create your own minis and zines! All ages are welcome.

Also at the Kids Drop-In@ 3pm-4pm – Make a Super Hero Trading Card!
Ever imagined being a superhero? Of course you have! Well, now’s your chance to make that dream real! Immortalize yourself on your own, personalized, superhero trading card. Design your own costume. Assign yourself some stats. Get down with some sweet, sweet powers. Be wild. Be creative. Be Super! Jennifer Chen celebrates the launch of her new YA book for kids, Super, with this special hands on event!

Jennifer Chen is a Toronto writer, and author of Super! She laughs too hard at her own jokes.

12pm – 7pm – The Global Zine Project

A hands-on exhibition. Zines, chapbooks and underground printed artifacts from around the world. Come explore underground scenes from Shanghai to Slovenia! (Contributions to the exhibit are still welcome.) Visit us in the salon at the South Entrance of the AGO.

12 pm – 5pm – Library & Archives Unshelved: Canzine Edition

For this year’s Canzine, the Art Gallery of Ontario’s E.P. Taylor Library & Archives will be hosting a special display of artists’ books, multiples, and ephemera from the library’s collection. Ranging from the historical to the contemporary, the selection features works by the Fluxus Group, General Idea, Becky Singleton, Lise Melhorn-Boe, and more. The library is located right next to the Grange Park entrance!

1:00pm – 2:30pm Dating Difficult People – Drop-In Dating Profiles

Catriona Wright will guide you through the process! Drop by to create a dating profile for your favourite difficult person (fictional, historical or made up) and chat with other difficult people looking for love in a difficult world.

Catriona Wright is the author of the poetry collection Table Manners(Véhicule Press, 2017) and the short story collection Difficult People (Nightwood Editions, 2018).

2:30pm – 3:30pm The HIV Howler Launch

The HIV Howler: Transmitting Art + Activism is a limited edition art newspaper focusing on global grassroots HIV art and cultural production. Artists have and continue to play a fundamental role in shaping broader

societal understandings of HIV and working within the communities that are most impacted by the virus: queer and trans people, people who use drugs, sex workers, people of colour, indigenous peoples. Together we reflect the immediacy and urgency of global HIV/AIDS dialogues as well as their historical continuities. Join us for a conversation and launch with artists and contributors who created the Howler!

4:30pm – 5:30pm DISCUSSION: The Noir Small Press Resurgence

Anxiety, depravity, depression and, of course, hardboiled entertainment! This panel discusses the resurgence of noir and how it is becoming a small press staple! A panel with A.G. Pasquella, Lisa de Nikolits and Meagan Byrne.

Meagan Byrne is a Métis (Swampy Cree/Newfoundlander) media artist and game designer born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario. She has been creating digital interactive works since 2014 and is currently working at imagineNATIVE as Coordinator of Digital and Interactive works. She is also the founder of and lead designer at Achimostawinan Games. Her designs and narratives are often a means of exploring questions of cultural belonging, the indigenization of media and the future of indigenous language and culture.

Lisa de Nikolits is the award-winning author of eight novels: The Hungry Mirror, West of Wawa, A Glittering Chaos, The Witchdoctor’s Bones, Between The Cracks She Fell, The Nearly Girl, No Fury Like That, and Rotten Peaches. No Fury Like Thatwill be published in Italian in 2019 by Edizione Le Assassine under the title Una furia dell’altro mondo. Her nineth novel, The Occult Persuasion and the Anarchist’s Solution, is also scheduled to be published in 2019 by Inanna Publications. Her short fiction and poetry have also been published in various anthologies and journals across the country. She is a member of the Mesdames of Mayhem, the Crime Writers of Canada, Sisters in Crime, and the International Thriller Writers. Originally from South Africa, Lisa de Nikolits came to Canada in 2000. She lives and writes in Toronto.

A.G. Pasquella is a writer and musician. His writing has appeared in various spots, including McSweeney’s, Black Book, Joyland, Little Brother, and Imaginarium 2013: The Best Canadian Speculative Writing. He is co-editor (with Terri Favro) of Pac’n Heat: A Noir Homage to Ms. Pac-Man. A.G.’s debut thriller, Yard Dog, comes out in November 2018 from Dundurn Press. He lives in Toronto.

5:30pm Presentation of the Annual BP Zine Awards. Readings, videos, slides and, of course, announcing the winners in all categories including Best Zine Overall! Check out the nominees.
