Reading Fluke is like suddenly hanging out with a bunch of people you don’t know. They could be fascinating, or they could be boring as all hell. You don’t know, because you’ve just met them. You’re getting nothing more than a glimpse into their lives, their talks, their jokes and their environment. The introduction to the zine mentions specific friends and throughout the work precise geography is alluded to. It really seems this zine was created for a specific group of friends-but does not detract from the worthiness of the project. Zines can be a great communication tool in many different ways. Unfortunately, I do need to note that perhaps the author could work on these pieces a bit more, with more of a critical eye. At this point the author’s writing skills are fairly limited. But that could improve with experience. (Jon Pressick)
