Nothing like a couple of pock-marked mugs named Sinus and Loady to turn you into a page flipper. Angry Youth Comic promises the world with its cover, depicting these ill-advised stooges, hand drawn with love and, perhaps, ire. The stories told are short but not sweet, spiked with liberal doses of toilet humour and foul language. If perversity is your passion, publisher Johnny Ryan has just the tonic for you. To be frank, AYC is pretty playful, and doesn’t aim at much more than a stray yuck. And for the most part, the work finds Sinus and Loady in various stinky predicaments (their search for the wayward O’pussy is particularly memorable), typically escaping with their faculties fully intact. AYC would make for some solid wintertime reading for shut-ins: why go outside when you can read about the wonders of “Dog Shit Golf” from the comfort of your living room? (Cameron Gordon)
