Mental Magazine

Mental Magazine

The brains behind this zine dedicated to underground music is Brad Pine (aka brado), a man who’s nothing_if_not ambitious. Starting with what he considers a small_run distribution (2000 copies!?!), he’s aiming to go bigger and targeting a 14_40 male audience. A lofty goal to be sure, but Mental Magazine is going to require a fast lobotomy if it’s ever going to get there. Besides being a rail thin 5_minute read, anybody over 20 (the upper_stratum of Mental’s demographic) will be bored stiff. There’s a press release about brado’s anti_Smurfs song (complete with silly lyrics), a short interview with the Forgotten Rebels’ Mickey DeSadist reproduced from another zine in 1988, and three record reviews. One of these is the Nils tribute record; brado ignores the music, but says the album cover looks pretty good. Here’s hoping for an improved #2. (DF)
