A great read says this reviewer, and I’m not even that much of a hockey fan anymore. Well written (well, no bullshit at least), funny, informative (I didn’t know some punk had pissed a torrential stream straight at the bar during the Stiff Little Fingers show) and, well, cheap. The cover has Patrick Roy looking back at the last goal going in to the net during the Olympics and saying tabernac, but as usual, hockey is only a part of this mix. Where there is hockey, though, it’s better commentary than anything “professional” you’ll find on the stands. (No doubt the editors themselves would rather blow $6 on Barely Legal than on the Hockey News.) This is much more about real hockey, covering even the street hockey shenanigans of a bunch of local drinkers. There’s also a decent crossword, very entertaining letters, and a great couple of features on Montreal Mirror editor-in-chief and notorious barfly Al South. Lotsa fun. (LR)
