Jonathan Blackburn s chapbook of 4 stories and 2 poems perfectly captured the emotions that he was trying to evoke. This is the kind of writing that sets your nerves on edge. I mean, while reading “One Friday Night” I could picture the scene and feel the emotions that the main character Davey was feeling. In fact, the writing was so suggestive that I could even feel the fear descend on Davey s mind as his father gets ready to whip him with his belt buckle. Not pretty. And definitely not for everyone. But powerful writing like this that is an antidote to the noxious middle-class pleasantries that too often pass for writing in this country. (DP)
