music review:
The Campbell Apartment – Insomniac Almanac
The album begins with some electro clash merged with angsty guitar rock as singer and guitarist Ari Vais sings, “Long distance relationship is a four-letter-word.” Dubbed “power pop,” this is a subtler version of little angry boy music but a bit more complex, word-heavy and meaningful, without ever over-doing it. The songs are crisp and sweet, folkish at times, building on what Built To Spill created a decade ago – a lot of hooks, catchy lyrics and swell melodies. One fine song, “St. Louis,” is much softer than the other tracks, romantic, tender and perfect for a RomCom soundtrack. It’ll pull on your indie heart strings for sure. (Jack Cena)
