One thing that the newsletter of the Toronto Downtown Jazz Society is not is a fairly comprehensive guide to what is happening jazz-wise in Toronto. Most of this newsletter is fluff that caters to already well-established personalities, venues, musical styles etc. The listings are useful as well as the Jazz and Blues Radio section — especially for those Torontonians who don’t know when and where jazz is played on the radio. Other than that, I can’t help feeling that The Lead Sheet could do a lot more than run some half-baked personality features and a revolting article on the party held to celebrate the opening of Judy Jazz.
