At first this really unsettled me – and when I realized that was the intention, I was impressed. In Jim Larwell’s poems, his knife cuts sharply, words fall like hammers so that even the four line, eleven word poem Anal Sex (“Gently/I want to tuck/your folded body/against my moist belly”) can leave you with more imagery and impact than a lot of writers spend pages trying to cram into their flowery prose. This is an excellent, provocative collection of poetry that deserves to be read. (KJ)
