Protestations aside, Larry is at heart an anarcho-syndicalist, meaning he believes in people joining together in democratic labour union-like structures to run their own lives, and he’s a smart one. His little booklets (Revolution & Reformism, Syndicalism in Myth and Reality, Laughter is Bourgeois, Sane Anarchy) are erudite, well-reasoned and just arrogant enough to entertain. Sane Anarchy is really the one to read to get the gist of Larry’s ideas, as the others become a bit heady or intramural or disconnected for the unconverted. As Larry says, “It’s a fact. Nobody likes the state.” And he’s at his best when he’s got that One Big Fuck the State Union in his sights, not other Leftists, about whom, Larry, who cares?
