HRSTA, Ghosts Will Come and Kiss Our Eyes

More groanin’, moanin’ and dronin’ from this lesser example of the Montreal aesthetic emerging from the hallowed hovel of Constellation Records. Reminds me of Molasses (the band) and how they buried the songs under the aesthetic. There might be some arch-Modernism masquerading as post-rock innovation here, but it leaves me cold. I have a hard enough time with life, I want my music to be pleasurable. The promise of a Bee Gees cover had me hanging on until the end, but even that was lost to the world-weariness of the sound. Too bad. (Terence Dick)
