To kick off international zine month (and Canada Day), let’s go back to issue 50 and Liz Worth’s historical look at zines in Canada. Entitled “Despite What You’ve Heard, Zines Aren’t Dead,” the article tracks zines from the ’80s to the present, following artists and creators such as GB Jones, Liisa Ladouceur, Tara Bursey and Louis Rastelli.
If you’re interested in the history of Canadian zines, look too at our write-up on the documentary She Said Boom: The Story of Fifth Column. The film, by Kevin Hegge, details the life of Toronto band Fifth Column and the zines created by GB Jones, Bruce LaBruce and others creators who were active in the city in the late ’80s/early ’90s.
