Fun With Crowdfunding

Bike Local: Toronto-based bike courier collective Send It is looking to expand its operations. The collective is worker-owned and operated, and focuses on local businesses and neighbourhoods. “Bike messengers get a bad rap for being surly and mean, and a lot of that negativity manifests as a result of being disrespected by employers that refuse to pay fair wages and provide benefits,” the group writes on its Indiegogo page. “We LOVE our jobs and we want people to take us and our profession seriously. Operating as a collective was a politically intentional decision made on our parts to make sure we are all paid a fair wage and treat each other, our clients, and our community with respect.”

If the collective reaches its $3, 700 goal, they’re planning on purchasing a cargo bike that will enable them to carry everything from giant boxes to sacks of coffee beans. There are some great perks involved, including free delivery services to custom linoleum art prints, and for a $1,000 donation, your name will be tattooed on one of the bike couriers! That’s some commitment there, folks. Check out Send It’s Indiegogo page.
