Jenna Harbut
Many of us dream of the day when we’ll be able to give up our day jobs in pursuit of our true dreams – whether they be in creative pursuits or elsewhere. In her new documentary, Make It Happen: How to Succeed In the Handmade World, Vancouver-based creative entrepreneur Jenna Herbut (the multi-city Make It Craft Show and Make It University are two of her projects) plans to share the inspiring stories of people who decided to switch gears and devote their professional life to pursuing the dream of creating handmade items and, in some cases, building new businesses based upon their creations.
So far she’s spoken with musician Dan Mangan (who is the brother of the film’s videographer Neil Mangan) full-time painter April Lacheur and Natasha Paterson, who makes beautiful t-shirt designs through Whiteout Workshop, among others. In order to further her version, Herbut needs your help to covering some of the film’s costs. Funds raised up to the $15,000 goal will go towards editing, hardwire and legal costs, equipment, travel to interview far-flung subjects, and smaller stuff like hard drives and sound cards. Perks include t-shirts, a spot in the movie (for $250) and a chance to take Make It University’s Handmade Business Training Program (for $500.)
