We at Broken Pencil don’t stop at just supporting indie lit and zines— we also love people who bring food culture back to its DIY roots! Even though Toronto has tons of talented picklers, canners, sauce makers, and other foodie creators, renting a standard professional kitchen can be prohibitively expensive. Because of strict regulations, people planning to sell their goods must use commercial kitchens— which is why the folks at Manning Canning are raising funds to offer an accessible, affordable, well-equipped, purpose-built kitchen and storage space for producers who need it.
The space is at Vanderhoof Avenue in Leaside, and will have two separate kitchens.
They’re about 2/3 of their goal, but they will only be funded if they raise $10,000 by next week! If you love Toronto’s food scene and want independent food creators to be able to vend their wares in more places, for a better price, donate at their kickstarter.
And of course, we’ve tried their pickles and jams, and they are oh so good— check out their site.
