Led by Toronto’s Hand Eye Society, TIFF Nexus’ Comics vs Games creative jam has developed five inspiring game collaborations between nationally and internationally renowned independent comic and game creators. Each team is made up of one comic creator and one indie game developer, and the results are highly polished, multiplayer, jam-scale games, available to all visitors to play for free.
The Ontario College of Art and Design Univerity class of 2012, a mix of more than 550 graduating students in 12 undergraduate programs will exhibit a vast array of work in many disciplines, of some of the brightest up-and-comers in Toronto’s art and design field.
Brought to you by indie event coordinator extraordinaire Sherwin Tjia, Strip Spelling Bees are played a lot like strip poker, but it’s a spelling bee and it’s played in front of a live audience of hooters, hollerers and hecklers who want to see some smart and sexy skin! Since this Bee is being held on May the 4th, the theme of the night is STAR WARS. Those competing in costumes will be looked upon more favourably.
Graphic novelist Alison Bechdel (Fun Home) will present her new book Are You My Mother?! followed by an on-stage interview and a mixer for comics creators and fans alike!
Over 300 international cartoonists are on scheduled to attend this year’s Toronto Comic Arts Festival, representing more than a dozen countries, confirming TCAF as the preeminent celebration of comics and graphic novels in Canada, and one of the most celebrated literary comics events in the world.

The Women and Trans bike repair collective is an established weekly bike repair night at Bike Again. The space is women and trans positive and a non-intimidating space in which to learn about and work on your bike. Drop-in is free all women and trans identified folks welcome.

The Anchor Archive is cataloguing all of its zines and making them available in its searchable online catalogue. With the help of amazing volunteers they’ve finished cataloguing over half of the collection. But they can always use more help, so if you’d like to spend some time checking out zines, meeting some nice folks, and eating delicious snacks come to a cataloguing party! Until May 30th, Emily Davidson’s exhibition: Agitate Educate Organise, Khyber, 1588 Barrington St.
Emily Davidson situates her artistic practice within the political project of advocating feminism. Her work is centred on using nostalgia to critique of the notion of progress. Agitate Educate Organise depicts vignettes of women’s labour history from the mid-nineteenth century until the early twentieth century with an installation letterpress printed wallpapers. Drawing on William Morris’ decorative work from the late nineteenth century, Davidson repurposes the anti-industrial aesthetic of the Arts and Crafts movement to show the radical social history of women workers.
